Arezzo Octagonal Tureen - 2.4 L - Handcrafted in Italy - Pewter
Featured in the film, Ferdinando & Carolina, this solid pewter octagonal tureen, handcrafted by Italian pewter craftsmen, evokes both formality of a dinner service, and yet the relaxed solidity of just doing things properly. It's unusual shape gives a sense of majesty to the table.
The tureen is a respected part of a modern dinner service, however, the golden age of the tureen can be said to have been during the reign of Louis XIV when the dinner table, containing every dish at once, was refashioned so that each course was presented with an air of ceremony.
The soup tureen on its serving platter provided the opening ceremony, and the tureen was developed from a practical covered serving vessel into one of the most richly ornamented centrepieces of the formal apparatus of dining.
"Beautiful soup, so rich, and green/Waiting in a hot tureen" mouthwaters the Mock Turtle in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
This generously proportioned vessel can hold 2.4L of delicious offerings, from soup to sausage casserole, it doesn't have to be regal...
