Talete Hourglass - 19 cm Height - Handcrafted in Italy - Pewter
This beautiful and generously proportioned hourglass, handcrafted within a frame of solid pewter by Italian craftsmen, is reminiscent of, and inspired by, classical design respectful to the age-old traditions of time measurement.
Throughout history, scientists, physicists, alchemists, engineers and mathematicians such as Thales (Talete in Italian), a Greek philosopher, learned scholar and respected astronomer, have all used the hourglass to make sense of the world, in terms of both conventional and abstract time and space.
The hand-cast pewter frame both supports and protects the glass, and the soft pewter hue adds to the timeless beauty of watching sands of time trickle from top to bottom.
An interesting detail is that upon the top and bottom of this attractive time-piece are engraved two historic tables necessary for the use of the "perpetual calendar" hence 'fasti perpetui', which allows you to calculate the day of the week for any given date.
The running time is 30 minutes; perfect for formalising time for homework, reading time or music practice...
