Originally cruets were thought to have been used for holding liquids for ecclesiastical uses, for example holy water and wine for communion, but by the seventeenth century cruets were used for culinary uses, especially in France and Italy, where oils and vinegars have long been a key part of cooking and dining.
The glass jar has an easy-to-use spout, and the elegant pewter handle makes passing the extra virgin olive oil or fine aged balsamic vinegar around the dining table a pleasure; the stunning glass stopper maintains freshness, when not in use.
