Art Nouveau-Style Calamo Dip Pen - 17 cm Length - Handcrafted in Italy - Pewter/Britannia Metal
Art Nouveau-Style Calamo dip pen, or nib pen.
Art Nouveau-style pieces manufactured today by Cosi Tabellini are hand-made in Britannia Metal, a pewter-type alloy favoured for its silvery appearance and smooth surface, and commonly used during the Art Nouveau period.
These dip or nib pens were the evolutionary step between quill and fountain pens in the early-mid 19th century. They are still popular today with writers who enjoy writing in a traditional style, calligraphers, as well as among illustrators, both professional and amateur, as they allow for a variety of inks to be used, compared to a modern day fountain pen, and can produce lines in a greater variety of thicknesses, depending on the speed and pressure exerted, than a standard fountain pen, so are an extremely useful addition to any artist's toolbox.
