Violetta Forged Dinner Knife Set (Set of 6) - 25.5 cm Length - Handcrafted in Italy - Pewter & Stainless Steel
This gorgeous forged dinner knife, handcrafted by Italian craftsmen by fusing Brescian pewter and stainless steel, is both strong and ergonomic.
The dinner knife is traditionally the largest of a table setting, and this forged version is perfect for cutting and manipulating prepared and cooked food with efficiency, as well as having plate appeal.
The origin of the design of the modern dinner knife, with its distinctive blunt and rounded end, is attributed to Cardinal Richelieu in the mid-17th Century, who was so disgusted at the unsavoury habit of Chancellor Segieur picking his teeth with a pointed knife after a meal, that he ordered the blades of his dinnerware to be ground down and rounded off. Such was the Cardinal’s influence that soon everyone was using rounded-off cutlery knives.
Sold in sets of six, this knife complements a full range of flatware available in Cosi Tabellini's popular Violetta range. The Violetta range of flatware and serving ware is an elegantly simple design with rectangular-shaped handles that taper softly at the tip, giving the cutlery a contemporary feel. The soft, warm hues of the pewter, combined with the simplicity in design, adds sophistication to any table setting, formal or informal.
The pewter handles of Violetta cutlery are made using a special technique: the molten pewter is directly cast onto the steel tips of the cutlery; this process forms what is really a single element in which the "hardness" of the steel discreetly dissolves into the "soft" surface of the pewter handle, more suitable for contact with the hands.
